A week in the life of a Club Professional

Mon: shop opens at 8.00am, I normally arrive at a similar time, catch up from having my day off on Sunday. Do the weekend accounts and tally the green fees for the Golf Club.
Mid morning I can normally start teaching and covering the onslaught of telephone bookings from golfers planning their week, enquiries from Societies and casual visitors. By now the guys in the shop and Lynn are well into catching up with all the website enquiries and Ebay questions, for example "is the left handed set you have listed on Ebay a set for left handed players?" ! ! etc etc
Quick lunch and coffee followed by all the usual mundane tasks of the post and paperwork.
A regular class at local schools means an early finish which allows me to take my 3 busy children to their sporting activities.
Tues: Early start to open shop at 7.30 am, get the day planned for Rob and Alex and catch up with any overspill with Lynn on the website. Tuesdays tend to be a busier morning teaching followed by appointments with Reps through to the afternoon.
Catch up on telephone messages and return some calls, then a thorough practice session before playing the Captain / Pro match, teeing off at 4.00pm.
Wed: Also a prompt start to open up the shop, see what calls and enquiries I need to deal with from Tuesday afternoon and welcome and serve the Ladies who play on wednesday mornings.
Quite often Wednesday is also a day when I have appointments to plan radio advertising and newspaper campaigns ready for deadlines by the weekend.
Wednesday afternoon is a day for our local high school to bring their Juniors along to us, we host Junior night 4-5pm every wednesday and this is going from strength to strength, it also gives local Juniors a chance to sample golf.
This is followed by regular lessons and custom fitting appointments for customers who have some fine tuning required on sets of clubs they have bought and then home to the troops before a day off on thursday.
Friday morning is always an early start to catch up from my day off, there is usually a page of phone messages and enquiries to deal with, followed by a morning teaching.  Ordinarily I will have some appointments, customers visiting to try out clubs or looking for advice to help them to make a decision.  Once it gets to lunch time the phone just doesn't stop ringing, golfers booking their weekend tee times.
Every week Friday never ceases to amaze me with last minute deliveries and collections, so the afternoon gets absorbed with trying to call customers who have orders in the system and allocate the stock.
Sat morning, 7.30am open shop, teach during the morning, then take our Junior's coaching session which starts at 9.30am.
Back to the shop for 10.30 ish and catch up with the week's admin, do the post and generally wrap up the week.  Saturday is always a nice day to socialise with Club Members and answer the queries and curiosity about the latest clubs and trends. 5pm ish, time to catch up and look forward to Sunday day off and support my children's football, hockey & tennis.  Wash the cars and get ready for Monday and plan a game of golf into next week!
